Mississauga Halton LHIN seeking passionate individuals to help shape the local health care system

Oakville (October 13, 2017) – The Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is seeking patients, family members, caregivers and individuals with lived experience to participate in a new Patient and Family Advisory Committee (PFAC) – one of the region’s patient and family engagement forums that will assist the LHIN in improving health services and delivery of care.

Volunteer PFAC members will meet at least four to six times per year to provide feedback and input that will drive meaningful changes to Mississauga Halton LHIN programs, services and initiatives, and will help shape the local health care system. Members will:

  • Help to develop a patient and caregiver engagement strategy to support creative engagement and inclusion of patients and caregivers in our region.
  • Provide advice and recommendations on ways to improve health care access and service delivery.
  • Work with the CEO, staff, health service providers and partners on strategies to improve patient care and caregiver recognition and support.

“This PFAC will build on our ongoing commitment to patient and caregiver engagement,” said CEO Bill MacLeod of the Mississauga Halton LHIN. “Patients, family members and caregivers are at the heart of our health care system and have invaluable experiences and insights that help us ensure we meet the needs of our residents and continue to put patients first.”

The Mississauga Halton LHIN will recruit members who reflect the diversity of the community, including Indigenous peoples, francophones and newcomers. Selected candidates will be individuals with lived experience as patients, family members or caregivers in health care settings in the Mississauga Halton LHIN.

All 14 LHINs in Ontario are establishing PFACs as part of the Patients First Act, 2016. Individuals interested in joining the Mississauga Halton LHIN PFAC are invited to visit the Mississauga Halton LHIN website to download the application form. Applications will be accepted until positions are filled.
